Publication of an article on NTGs (the “new GMOs”), and launch of a consultation (in French)
Dominique Desclaux (INRAE) has published an article entitled “New GMOs”: what are the risks in Europe of authorizing seeds derived from new genomic techniques? (in French) in The Conversation outlining the issues at stake in the future regulatory framework for GMO varieties derived from “new genomic techniques” (NTG) – currently under discussion within the European Union. It points out that the compromise under discussion would divide these varieties into two categories, subject to different constraints, and explains why citizens and scientists are warning of the risks of such a distinction.
“We are all concerned by the regulations currently being debated in Brussels”, explains Dominique Desclaux, as “it’s not just agriculture that’s at stake, but the plates of European consumers”.
As part of DIVINFOOD, we are organizing a consultation on the subject, to which you are invited to take part via the link below. This will enable us to pass on the opinions of future consumers of NGT varieties to decision-makers in the European Union
