Field Day in Szár (Hungary)

With nearly 70 participants, ÖMKi’s Field Day took place on 13 June 2024 in Szár, focusing on organic cereal production and variety selection, the Farmer-Miller-Baker Network, flaked cereals and networking at value chain level.

The field visit also presented, among others, ancient wheat variety tests, progeny generations of durum-emmer crosses, and emmer OHM plots studied in the framework of the DIVINFOOD project.

In her presentation, Fruzsina Szira, the project’s national leader, also spoke about the situation of ancient cereal production and the typical farm types in Hungary.

At the end of the day, the participants had the opportunity to visit the Astrié mill of Csoroszlya Farm, guided by millwright Philippe Lauzes. Csoroszlya Farm is a member of LL Cer-Hung, where several types of underutilised cereals, such as einkorn and emmer are grown, processed and sold as organic flour.
